Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive imaging test. This test uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina. OCT enables your ophthalmologist to visualize and measure each layer of the retina, aiding in diagnosis and guiding treatment for conditions such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and diabetic eye disease.
OCT is often used to evaluate disorders of the optic nerve as well, enabling your ophthalmologist to observe optic nerve fiber changes. Your healthcare provider will review the OCT test images with you, which may include comparing older scans with the latest ones. Results should be available promptly.
